Psalm 59:16-17 – But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. 17 You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely.
Family, what is your favorite way to wake on a Saturday morning? Or any morning? I am referring to when sleep is disappearing and your first waking thoughts begin to occur. What do you want on your mind? What do you pray your first thought and first words are? I treasure, I love, when I wake as I did this morning. When my first awareness is the presence of God and the first thoughts that enter my head are “Good Morning Lord. I love you Lord.” Oh that’s the best!
I woke up! Win! Thank you Lord! I woke up in my comfortable bed, and my wife was still sleeping beside me. Win! Thank you Lord! I could hear the dog stirring, he is a good and faithful friend. Win! Thank you Lord! My family is well and we have a grandchild on the way, the Lord is blessing! Win! Thank you Lord! I love all these things that I woke up to, but the best first awareness and the best first thought is the presence of God, and knowing that He was with me all night and He never leaves me. Never ever, not ever, not one moment, not ever ever does He leave me. I wake to what I fell asleep to. I woke to a knowledge, not a sense, but a knowledge of well-being because He who was with me when I fell asleep me greeted me with His presence in the morning. There is nothing better. I woke to love. Oh, I am blessed to have some who love me, but nothing is better than waking to the love of God! I love waking and being aware that my wife’s arm is around me, it’s great! But nothing at all is greater than knowing that I have been sleeping in the presence and protection of God. It is He who has given all my earthly blessings and it He who protects them.
I love waking up with a first awareness is God is with me and (I know many of you will understand this) I hear my Savior and Lord Jesus say to “Good Morning” to me. I love when my first words, in response to Him, are “I love you Lord.” I love it when that happens.
