Deuteronomy 29:29 “ The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.”
Psalm 131 “ My heart is not proud, Lord, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me. 2 But I have calmed and quieted myself, I am like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child I am content. 3 Israel, put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.’
2 Timothy 2:23 “Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.”
We read in Revelation 10:4 “And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.”” It seems to us like John was given a doozy of a revelation from the seven thunders. But then again, maybe it was not a doozy but it seems that way because it is, at least for now, hidden from us. It seems like nothing peaks our interest like a secret.
Sometimes, like in Revelation 10:4, God does not reveal some things to us. In fact, God does not tell us a lot of things. Often what He does not tell us is the why, or the how. How has God always existed? How can we perfectly and completely understand why, what and how the Trinity is? Why did a church filled with Christians get wiped out by a tornado? Recently a person in a Rooted class posed the question “Why did God make man?” She ended up providing a possible answer that made all the class say “Oh, I like that!” What she proposed is that it is liking asking why parents want children. Wow, that was awesome and I thought it was one of the best answers to that I had ever heard! See, what makes the answer hard is that we focus on the baby (us) rather than on the parents (God). God loved us before the foundation of the earth. We don’t know the absolute complete answer, but we do know that it has to do with love. However, as grand as her response is, and it as good a response as I have ever heard, still, it is a supposition. We just don’t know the reason, at least we don’t know the entire reason. Perhaps the reason does have more to do with who He is than who we are. God is love. His love is proactive. In His mind, His perfect mind, He made whom He knew He would love. Perhaps that was enough.
Back to the point, God does not tell us everything. In the above verse in Deuteronomy we see that there are an infinite amount of things God has not told us. He made that decision. Now, we need to control our curiosity. It is okay to be curios. That is how God made us. However, when it comes to some of the things of God, we need to stop surmising and just accept that God has not told us all things. If God has not told us, we just don’t need to know. However, what He has told us is more than can we can know. Family, let us exhaust what He has revealed to us in His Word, and then we can ponder what He has not told us. Of course, we will never fully understand all He has given us in His Word before He we will be with Him. Perhaps He will tell us then. But for now, we have all need to know in His Word. What is not there, we don’t now need to know. To question that is to question God. We know that God knows infinitely more than we know (Isaiah 55:9) so who are we to question whether or not He should have told us more than He did. Who are we to say to God that He should not have left something out? That would be a lack of faith in His perfect knowledge and since it is a lack of faith in Him, it would be sin (Romans 14:23). Family the verse in Deuteronomy 29:29 states that the secret things of God belong to Him and that the revealed things belong to us. What He has revealed to us, what is in the Word of God and what He continues to reveal to us individually, and corporally, how the Word of God applies to every portion of our life, is where He wants our thoughts and what most benefits us to think about. He is saying to consider what He has given us to consider and to trust Him concerning the things He has not revealed. Now the Word is a finite number of words but the knowledge and wisdom of them are infinite. Let us think about those things. In heeding this admonition is great peace and satisfaction.
In Psalm 131 King David says that He is not proud and so he will not look at, or into, matters that are beyond him and not meant for him. He will consider what God has given Him and that in itself is an endless pursuit. In this He is calmed and quieted. He is a peace. He is like a child full of mother’s milk, at peace and at rest. So we, who consume what God has given us (His Word) by His precious Holy Spirit, and we rest in His love and in His arms.
2 Timothy 2:23 tells us not to let foolish, okay, let’s say it, stupid arguments consume us. “If God can do anything, can He build a rock so big he cannot pick it up?” Stupid. Just creates arguments and is of no profit. Why not ask me if I feel like killing my beloved mother? Just as stupid. Just as inane. Just as not worthy of my time to even consider. Family, if people have legitimate questions with honest intentions, let’s talk. However, we need not argue over stupid things. Let us rest in the peace of what God has given us. Honest questions are good. Foolish questions should not be avoided. Perhaps, we should, before we respond, ask the person who brings us such a silly question “What if God, who knows that you reject Him and never will accept Him, and since He can do anything and no one can resist Him, made this question up so that people who don’t love him or want to know Him, will keep themselves occupied with silly questions such as these? Is that possible? If it is, what does it mean?” If they figure out the answer to that, they will be better benefited.
Matthew 11:28-30 ““Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”” Let us pursue what God has given us to pursue. Let us turn aside and not consider what God has not given us to pursue. Let’s trust God and grow in the knowledge He wants us to have. In that is freedom, peace and rest. Family, let us rest in God. It is a good place to be! Praise God!
Psalm 150:6 – Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!
Micah 7:7 – But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.
Micah 6:8 – He has shown You, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of You but to do justly, to love mercy, And to walk humbly with Your God.
