Devotion Revelation 10:5-7 The Mystery of God

  • Revelation 10:5-7 – Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. 6 And he swore by Him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay!  7 But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to His servants the prophets.”

“Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven.  6 And he swore by Him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, “There will be no more delay!”  This mighty angel stands on the land and the sea.  What a mighty and imposing figure.  Notice that it is not said that he stands in the sea, but on the sea.  Even his position and posture show that He is sent and empowered by God.

The angel seems to be swearing by another, by “Him who lives for ever and ever.” The angel is swearing by God whom the angel refers to as “Him.”  The “Him” is described as He who is eternal and who created all this is created.  We know that Jesus is eternal and that He was the one who made all things and holds all things together (John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:15-17).  So if this mighty angel were Jesus it would seem odd that He would refer to Himself in such a way.  It would therefore seem most likely that this angel is not Jesus but in fact, one of God’s very mighty angels.

The angel delivers the message which he was given by God to give.  How wonderful is the faithful service of God’s angels?  They do what God asks them to do, when He tells them to do they do it, and exactly as He has instructed them.  Oh that my ears would be so trained, my heart so inclined, and my will and mind so eager and ready to always act!  Lord Jesus, please, daily, make me new!

No more delays.  He is referring to the blowing of the Seventh Trumpet.  The releasing of the third woe, is about to happen.  Family, the time for coming to the Lord is now.  It is eternally now (2 Corinthians 6:2).  There should never be any delay.  Tomorrow is promised to no-one (James 4:13-15, Proverbs 27:1, Luke 12:13-21) and certainly those living during the Great tribulation are on the precipice of running out of time.  That time is running out should alarm both the unredeemed and the redeemed.  The unredeemed should be alarmed so that they awake from their deadly slumber and hear of and receive God’s great grace through Jesus Christ.  For the unredeemed they should be alarmed because we don’t know if we have tomorrow to reach the lost.  We don’t know that we will live out they day, or that Jesus won’t rapture us off today.  The day of salvation is today, and both the unredeemed and the redeemed need to heed the call (Revelation 22:17, 2 Corinthians 5:20, Isaiah 45:22, 1 Corinthians 1:24).

“But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to His servants the prophets.””  What is “the mystery of God?” The key to finding that out is reading the entire sentence.  “Just as he announced to his servants the prophets.”  The mystery is the prophecies that God has given us through His prophets, Old and New Testament, that had not yet been fulfilled, but now all the waiting is coming to an end.  What God has promised, what His people have longed for, is about to come true.  The mystery is God fully revealing what had been foretold, but had not happened and maybe had not been fully understood.  Luke 2:25-35 tells of a righteous and devout man named Simeon.  When Joseph and Mary brought the baby Jesus to the temple and Simeon saw Him, he exclaimed ““Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace.”  He, like all of God’s people in the Old Testament had heard the great mystery of the coming Messiah, but now it was revealed.  Now Simeon saw, and held, and surely kissed Jesus His Messiah.  He embraced the mystery revealed.  Simeon never doubted that the Messiah was coming.  To Him because God had promised the Messiah, it was never a matter of if, only a matter of when.  So the mystery is the revealing of what God has already proclaimed.  When God proclaims, He is just revealing fact that He already knows.  To us, we cling to His promises in Rock solid faith.  May we also embrace in our hearts, our souls and our minds, with all our strength, the Lord and kiss Him with our love and obedience to Him.  The Seventh Trumpet is about to be blown.  Terrifying events are coming.  Wonderful events are coming.  All depends on a person’s spiritual perspective.  As for us, we celebrate the fulfilling of all of God’s prophecies as we shout praises to Him.  Praise God!

Psalm 150:6 – Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord!

Micah 7:7 – But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.

Micah 6:8 – He has shown You, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of You but to do justly, to love mercy, And to walk humbly with Your God.
