Galatians 5:6 – For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
V6a – It is not whether we live up to the law, or whether we have not lived up to the law that has value. We know that by our deeds none of us will go to heaven. The scripture is absolute about this. We go to heaven only by the grace of God that we receive through Jesus. That is the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
V6b – “The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.” We are saved by faith and not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). We know that and quickly admit that we are sinners and are saved only by grace (John 1:8). So then, as far as now and for eternity, it is faith that counts. Of course, we know that if we are saved, if Christ lives within us, then good works will be produced because the Holy Spirit will change us to be and live more like Christ. If we don’t have Godly evidence flowing from us, then though we claim faith, our faith is false. God within means evidence of God within flows from within to without (James 2:17, Matthew 7:20, Luke 6:45). What is behind the fruit that we bear but the love of God? It is recorded in Matthew 22:40 that Jesus said to us that “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two things” and the two things that Jesus was referring to is that we are to love God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength and to love our neighbors (all fellow human beings) as ourselves. So faith expressing itself through love shows that we have genuine faith in God. The works that we do not are not to gain us acceptance into the family of God, but rather show that we belong to it.
Family, as God teaches us throughout scripture, love is the answer. First He loved us (1 John 4:19) and we responded to His love and loved Him back. We love Him through Jesus who is the expression of God’s love to us. If we have His love within, then we love others, because that is His love. After all we know that Jesus died expressing the love of God to the whole world (John 3:1, 1 John 2:2). Let us set aside all grievances in honor and obedience to our God. And the world will be a better place. And we shall be blessed by God and exhibit fruit that we are His. Praise God! By the power of His love, we are His! May the awareness of the love and grace of God, and may His peace, be your constant companion.
