Last night I looked to the night sky
Desiring to yell into it
No longer do I desire to be a man
Because men have no freedom
To cry out
How I want to loudly shout out
The hurt in my heart
As I clenched my mouth shut
I heard and then saw
A lone wolf, head pointed up
Yelling his sorrows to the world
Crying because he hurts
He does not hold back
He lifts his mouth to the sky
And he tells all who can hear
He shouts to the moon
What makes him cry tonight
As I silently walk
Under a cloudless night,
I look to the moon
But I do not cry to it
I hold my hurt in
As I was taught
So I don’t embarrass
Myself
My family
As I look at the moon
I hear the wolf
His mournful wail
I see his silhouette
On the hill close by
His mouth pointed to the sky
His heart bleeding into the sky
No shame, but even
A solitary beauty
So he lets his heart out
And then I realize
As he cries
I can feel his cry
Like it is my cry
Relief strokes my temples
His cries rub stress from my shoulders
And then I see why the wolf cries
For I see a smaller, slender wolf approach
My crying friend
Then he sees her and stops crying
Their silhouettes jump and dance in the moonlight
My friend the wolf no longer cries
For his friend has brought him comfort
And joy
Now I understand why the wolf cries
As they run away, out of sight, in the moonlight
I also leave
To find someone
To help me to joyfully jump and dance
And run off into the moonlight.
