Devotion 2 Timothy 2:11-12 Peace From His Faithfulness

2 Timothy 2:11-12 –  The statement is trustworthy: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him; 12 If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He will also deny us; 13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

“The statement is trustworthy: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him.”  If we die to self and live for Him, then as He lives permanently with the Father, we also will rise from death to live personably with God because we have believed the Gospel of Christ and have humbled ourselves and live in love and obedience for Christ.  God has promised this to us.  (Romans 6:5) We should remember that God’s promises have a flip side.  John 3:16 promises that Jesus died so that all who believe in Him will have will not perish but have eternal life.  There is a condition in the verse and the condition is that one must believe in Jesus.  The promise in John 3:16 has a condition and the condition is that one must believe (full meaning) in Jesus to receive eternal life.   John 3:18 states the flip-side of the promise. It states that the one who does not believe in Jesus is not removed from the judgement of original sin that all people are born into. Therefore, they remain with the curse of original sin (death) and do not have eternal life.  So we see that the promise to live eternally has a condition and the condition is the death of self to live for the Lord.  (Philippians 1:21)

“If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He will also deny us.”  Again first the promise is given, but then the condition of the promise.   We must endure in faith to Jesus and never walk away from it.  Now this is not a verse that applies to the unbeliever because one who has not had faith in the Lord cannot endure something that he has never began or had.  This verse is about a believer denying what he once had.  (2 Peter 2:20-22, Hebrews 6:4-6)  Let’s see this as it is.

“13 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.”  We need not fear, Jesus knows how to keep us and He will never cast us away.  (2 Timothy 1:12, John 6:37) Here we see a glorious and soul soothing promise.  Again, Paul is writing to believers.  If one who has faith in the Lord should turn from faith, the Lord remains faithful to us.  He cannot and will not be faithless to us.  Us being faithless is turning from full faith in Him, from His salvation, and in His provision and protection.  It is a person of faith not keeping His promise to always believe in all who Jesus is.  Jesus would not and could be faithless to us.  He remains faithful to us in all ways.  We know that Jesus has promised all who believe in Him eternal life because He loves us.  We know that He is love. (1 John 4:7-10) That means that in every part of Him, who He fully and intrinsically is, is love. What He is will be always and fully is expressed to us.  In the same way Jesus remains faithful to us because that is likewise intrinsically who He is.  It is less possible for Jesus to be unfaithful than for the Sun to be the Moon.  God is love and faithfulness.  That is part of what defines Him.  Any being or thing attributed to be God who is not love and faithfulness is not God.  For God to be unfaithful to us is to be unfaithful to Himself. Therefore we can trust Him because He cannot be untrustworthy and unloving.  Knowing that about Him we have eternal peace to love and trust Him.  Our God is always good, always loves us and is always faithful to us so we can always remain in peace and joy because it is based on Him.  Praise Him!  Praise our God!  Praise God!

Psalm 150:6 – Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord!

Micah 7:7 – But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will Hear me.

Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, Oh man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Numbers 6:24-26 – The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.
