Devotion John 11:21-27 Take It Personal

Romans 3:23-24 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace though the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Romans 3:10-18 – As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; 11 there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.  12 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” 13 “Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit.” “The poison of vipers is on their lips.”  14 “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”  15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 ruin and misery mark their ways, 17 and the way of peace they do not know.”  18  “There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 10:9-10 – If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Romans 10:13 – For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Romans 5:1 – Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:1 – Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:38-39 –  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The truth of these verses I carry with me every day.  They all are either my past, my present, or my future.  Jesus took my sins off me and put them on Himself in order that I could be eternally alive with Him and in eternal peace with God Almighty.  I don’t forget who I was and don’t cover my eyes to who I sometimes still can be.  Starting with the Lord God, I have most hurt the ones I have most loved, and shamefully, still do.  I hold onto this truth because it keeps me in appreciation that only because of Jesus am I saved.  I was a rotten guy, and sometimes still can be.  But the great evil of my sin was snatched away by the greater love of God, and that through Jesus the Christ.

Every day I carry that I, without God within, am a very terrible sinner.  That is truth.  Yet, what is also truth is that Jesus set me free from bondage to sin so that I am free to be changed by the Holy Spirit and as I am, my freedom through Christ is best revealed because sin no longer rules my heart.  Laws don’t confine me…I am free.  I no longer obey rules because of fear or slavery to them.  Instead I obey rules because He who lives within me, who makes me new, changes me so that the new me so that the taste of sin becomes increasingly putrid. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Sin moves from being sweet to being something putrid that I desire to wretch out.  My heart longs for righteousness, even as my earthly dying nature cries out for unrighteousness.  I have no question which desire is winning and which will win, it is the nature of the Holy Spirit that is winning and will win.  I see the evidence of it even as I’m impatient for the eradication of sinful desires

Take these verses and insert your name into them.  Make them personal because they are meant personally for every one of us. For instance “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace though the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”  This verse becomes “Bob has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and Bob has been justified freely by His grace though the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”  Put our name in all of the verses and so receive the grace of God that comes only through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.  The verses are all true for all of us.  Carry the truth with us and be prepared to share the truth with anyone who asks. (1 Peter 3:15-16)  And thank God for these truths.  Always remember who you were and always thank God for His sanctification.  To the praise of God, He is always moving us forward.

Psalm 150:6 – Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord!

Micah 7:7 – But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will Hear me.

Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, Oh man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Numbers 6:24-26 The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 The Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.
