Devotion James 1:19 Quick, Slow, Slow

James 1:19 “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,”

Matthew 7:3-5 – “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”

Romans 2:1-3 – You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2 Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3 So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?

1 Corinthians 11:31 – But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment.

“Remember, when you point your finger at someone, there are three more pointing back at you” is a well-known saying.

Another well know saying is “Physician heal thyself.”  What they both mean is before we accuse another, or others, of doing something, be sure that we, or those with us, are not doing the same thing.

Right now there is a lot of finger pointing go on.  Are those who are pointing their fingers innocent of what they accuse others of?  Well God knows, and He sees.  And we can be sure they will be held accountable. (Galatians 6:7)

Good verses to consider:  Proverbs 16:28-29 “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.  A violent person entices their neighbor and leads them down a path that is not good.”  Has this happened in our life?

Titus 3:10-11 “Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. You may be sure that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.”  Are people separating us from those we know to be good people, who have loved us and counseled us?

Proverbs 18:17 “In a lawsuit the first person to speak seems right, until someone comes forward and cross-examines.”  Have we accepted the testimony of the first person(s) before we have accused those whom we have loved, and who have loved us?

Psalm 150:6 – Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord!

Micah 7:7 – But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.

Micah 6:8 – He has shown You, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of You but to do justly, to love mercy, And to walk humbly with Your God.

Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
