Proverbs 17:28 “Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.”
Proverbs 29:11 “A fool vents all his feelings, but a wise man holds them back.”
Proverbs 17:27 “The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.”
Proverbs 10:19 “When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, but he who restrains his lips is wise.
I need to stick to the Word. I must shout that “from the rooftops.” Everything in me, God within me, compels me to share the Word of God. I will do that for the rest of my life. When I share the Word of God I share what I am commanded to share. (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 13:9) As the Apostles Peter and John confessed “As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:20) So, as we are all called to do, I must speak and write about Jesus. It is what is in my heart and my mind. It is what floods my spirit.
When someone is asking me of “spiritual” things but prerequisites the conversation by saying “but I don’t believe in the Bible, so don’t quote it,” I let them know I cannot do that. Anything I know of God began by His Spirit as the Holy Spirit revealed the Word to me. No, God’s words and thoughts are infinitely beyond mine (Isaiah 55:8-9) so I must, I am compelled to share them. In His Words are truth (John 17:17) and life (John 6:63), and my thoughts become dust underfoot.
Oh Lord, but I pray that all my thoughts be thoughts that You give to me and that all my emotions controlled by You. May my thoughts and words be holy because You have given me the Holy One within. Lord, please forgive me when they are not.
I know, that sometimes, I should just be quiet. Help me Lord to be quiet. Let me not be proud in the offering up of words, but guided by you. Even Forrest Gump knew when to just stop and to be quiet “And that’s all I have to say about that.” Well, “that’s all I’ve got to say about that.”
