2 Samuel 22:31 – As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; He shields all who take refuge in him

Early church Father Irenaeus is quoted with the following “The glory of God is a living man; and the life of man consists in beholding God.”  It is a famous statement.  But is it correct, or perhaps, is it well said?  Please allow me to say why this statement make me uncomfortable.  Family, God and His glory are perfect.  God and His glory are whole. Perfection does not need anything, it cannot be improved upon.  God and His glory are whole and complete with nothing needed to be added too.  Since God is perfect and whole, there has never been a “time” in history, or before time, or will there be after a time, when God is ever lacking.  That being said, how is man the glory of God.  Certainly the glory of God is shown in man.  God’s love, His mercy, His grace, and His perfect plan of salvation for man is perfection.  So in man God’s glory shines forth, but that is only an aspect of His glory.  Family, nothing and no-one adds to God’s glory.  Perfection cannot be made more perfect and what is whole needs nothing added.  In fact, if something is perfect and whole, then to add to it, if that were possible, means to change it.  To change perfection quite possibly means to change perfection to imperfection.  A poor example might be an artist who creates her masterpiece, her pièce de résistance and she believes it perfectly represents what she envisioned.  Then someone comes along and adds one tiny stroke to her work.  That one tiny stroke would change her perfect creation.  It is no longer is the same to her and has moved from her idea of perfection to become imperfection.  Perfection cannot be added to in any way or it is no longer what it once was.

God alone is perfect from the eternal past, to the present, to the eternal future.  He is perfect and not lacking anything.  What does that mean to us?  It means that He has a perfect knowledge of the past, our present and the future and so our future is safe in His hands.  It means He loves us with a perfect and everlasting love that will never cease.  It means that within that perfect love from Him is perfect peace.  It means that Jesus will perfectly lead us to our eternity with our triune God.  Perfect love, perfect provision, perfect protection, perfect peace are all what our perfect God offers to all who will love and submit to His Son Jesus who perfectly and completely paid for the sins of all man who will call upon Him (Romans 10:13, Acts 2:21).  Perfect.  What more could we expect or want from our perfect God.  Thank you Lord for Your perfection.  We delight in You and praise You!  Please help us to perfectly love You as You do us.  Oh yes, we praise You and thank You with all of our hearts and minds. Praise you our perfect God!

Psalm 150:6 – Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.  Praise the Lord!

Micah 7:7 – But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.

Micah 6:8 – He has shown You, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of You but to do justly, to love mercy, And to walk humbly with Your God.

Numbers 6:24-26 “The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.”
