Devotion Psalm 127:1-2 All The Time Only God

Psalm 127:1-2 – Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.  2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”  Unless our plans originate in the mind of God it is like trying to predict the changing movements an ant in search of food.  We should seek the will of God.  We should not block or inhibit, but every day seek out the leading of the Holy Spirit of God.  The Word of God brought alive in us by the Holy Spirit will guide our every step.  As He changes our hearts and minds and purifies our souls, every move can be done with freedom and though a new God installed thought process.    Only the plans of God will stand and prosper.  Plans without God are a weed that shoots up during the night and is plucked up the next day.  It has no eternal value.

“Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”  We want security in our lives.  We want to be safe and we want our loved ones to be safe.  Change can be positive, or it can hurt or destroy.  We try so hard to be safe and we meticulously plan, but unless our security is God, we have none.

“In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat…”  Education, talent and hard work amount to a house of leaves, the next wind determines its future unless our ultimate dependency is on God. If our dependency is on God and not ourselves, if it is God whom we rely upon, if it is God who told us to build a house of leaves, then even a house of leaves is impervious to the elements. God given talent, or education and hard work directed by God, will be a blessing to oneself and all whom one loves.  We must remember that whatever we do without God is like trying to empty the ocean by scooping it out on our left side and tossing it into the ocean on our right side.

“…for he grants sleep to those he loves.”  Peaceful sleep is found only when peace if fully placed in the hands of God who has known the future from eternity past.  Only He is the source for a peace that never fades, never fails and never leaves.  True deep-down-in-the-soul-peace that cannot be overcome comes only from God.  He gives it through Jesus His Son.  Those whose trust is completely and solely in the Lord sleep well through the night because God is that person’s eternal protector and provider.

Praise God!
