Psalm 10:16-17 – The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. 17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.
Lord God I confess that my heart, which I thought so soft, has too often been hard. I’ve been to minister to the homeless, the hurting and the forgotten at shelters, convalescent homes and the street. I’ve loved them and prayed with them, served them meals and cleaned up after them. Meeting them has warmed my heart. But Family and Friends, I confess my heart has not always been broken for them. I was there because I came in Jesus name, but my heart was not as the Lord’s heart. When ministering to them my heart was not inconsolable for them. I saw the cry in their eyes and their broken hearts inside. In their eyes was the cry their lips never uttered. They knew better than I that I was there to serve, but was not to deeply know their pain. The silent cry of their heart knocked on the door of my heart and instead of being invited in, it was given a handout. God forgive me my hard heart that has served but has not loved and bled for this people as you love and bleed for them. I confess my shallow love for those who lack basic food, shelter and protection. I confess that I have not protected these. I have not protected those who are hurting and need help. Oh, I’ve given, but the giving of my heart, oh Lord, has not been as it should be. Lord do what you must to make my heart softer, more tender, more responsive to the needs of those around me. Please make me more like new You. Nothing else will do than to be increasing more like you, day by day, and needy by needy. Whether in a palace or unprotected and exposed to the elements, may my heart break. Please let my heart break for all in need, both physically and spiritually. Please, Lord, raise my level of love. Oh that I might love as You love Lord. Make me new Lord Jesus, please make me new.
