I’ve love this song since I was a very young boy. My Dad used to sing it our house. Even before we were Christians it meant a lot to us. As a Christian, it has meant so much more to me. As a child I loved the story in the song, a simple one of a young boy, who comes to see the baby Jesus. He sees people bringing gifts of great wealth. The boy wonders what it is about the baby that everyone is so excited about. Then this little boy, poor in this world, sees the baby Jesus and He is touched deep down in his spirit as he realizes that he is gazing at the Savior of the world. The little pauper’s heart is transformed and he desires to give a rich gift to the newborn King as the others have. Yet he has nothing to give and he anguishes over his impoverished state. Then he realizes that he can’t give to Jesus what he does not have. But he can gift the same gift that all the others have brought to Jesus, he can give his heart to Jesus, and he does. His heart rings out to honor Jesus as he plays his drum, the beats of his throbbing heart manifesting in the beats of his drum. At that moment, that little boy became very rich indeed! Today, still the best gift one can give the Lord Jesus Christ, in one’s heart. After all, it’s the only gift he accepts. The little boy accepted the offer to come to King Jesus, and today that offer is still available to all. Put you hand in his and walk with him. Micah 6:8 – He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you. But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
Come they told me
Pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see
Pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring
Pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the king
Pa rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum
So to honor Him
Pa rum pum pum pum
When we come
Little baby
Pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too
Pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring
Pa rum pum pum pum
That’s fit to give our King
Pa rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum
Shall I play for you
Pa rum pum pum pum
Pa rum pum pum pum
Mary nodded
Pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time
Pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him
Pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him
Pa rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum,
Rum pum pum pum
Then He smiled at me
Pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum
Come they told me
Pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see
Pa rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum
