Not me<\/p>\n
Don\u2019t follow me<\/p>\n
I\u2019m not that guy<\/p>\n
I tried recently to be and I failed<\/p>\n
To love without reserve<\/p>\n
Always intending to help and bless<\/p>\n
I wanted to pour all that God had taught<\/p>\n
Into the one who had my heart<\/p>\n
But I rediscovered how imperfect I am<\/p>\n
I hoped to receive as well as give<\/p>\n
I wanted love back<\/p>\n
It was too much to ask for<\/p>\n
Yes, too much to ask for<\/p>\n
I was not called to receive love<\/p>\n
Only to give it.<\/p>\n
It was not my mission to receive blessings<\/p>\n
But to give it<\/p>\n
I was warned and did not heed<\/p>\n
That this person longed for God<\/p>\n
And not for me<\/p>\n
Not my kid, not my friend<\/p>\n
But both of these to God<\/p>\n
I learned my lesson deeply<\/p>\n
I will not return to that land<\/p>\n
I shall be fully known by none<\/p>\n
I will share what God has given me<\/p>\n
But I will never be so open to hurt again<\/p>\n
Never will I hope for a friendship so deep<\/p>\n
Expecting deep love brings deep hurt<\/p>\n
No child to me, by a will not mine<\/p>\n
Seeing no face, but a disappearing back<\/p>\n
Laughter that once healed me<\/p>\n
Replaced by silence<\/p>\n
Never had a best friend<\/p>\n
Never been number one<\/p>\n
Just not meant for me<\/p>\n
Very clear is the reason is me<\/p>\n
It is not others I can\u2019t trust<\/p>\n
They are all the same<\/p>\n
Only so far, only so much<\/p>\n
Never best friends, only so far<\/p>\n
Yet I have one who loves me<\/p>\n
Closer than a brother<\/p>\n
One who knows all about me<\/p>\n
Because He wants to<\/p>\n
Only Jesus can and does<\/p>\n
Others can have their best friends<\/p>\n
None will be mine<\/p>\n
None but Jesus<\/p>\n
My best friend is God<\/p>\n
Only He can love me<\/p>\n
Like I was designed to be loved<\/p>\n
Only He likes me<\/p>\n
Like I was designed to be liked<\/p>\n
So only He can know me<\/p>\n
It is what is meant to be<\/p>\n
In Jesus, in God<\/p>\n
It is want He wants<\/p>\n
For me<\/p>\n
