John 7:2\u00a0<\/b>–\u00a0<\/sup><\/b>\u00a0<\/sup><\/b><\/span>Now the feast of the Jews,\u00a0the Feast of Booths, was near.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

The Feast of Tabernacles was to commemorate the Lord God rescuing the Israelites from the bondage of the Egypt.\u00a0 It is a time to recognize His saving, protection and provision.\u00a0\u00a0Leviticus 23:33-36<\/b>\u00a0states that this Feast, also called the Feast of Booths, shall happen in the Jewish seventh month of Tishri with an eight day duration.<\/div>\n

For seven days they were not to do any \u201cordinary work\u201d and they gave food offerings to the Lord.\u00a0 These days were to be holy times of remembering the goodness of God and of giving Him praise and gratitude.\u00a0 A special time before God with family undoubtedly passing on the knowledge and worship of the one true God to their children and grandchildren.\u00a0 On the eighth day a holy gathering (convocation) would be held and a food offering would be presented to the Lord.<\/div>\n

This feast ordained by God is still observed by Jews.\u00a0\u00a0They build \u201cbooths\u201d (tabernacles, tents) in remembrance of the time the Lord guided them through the desert.\u00a0\u00a0They had no homes, but lived in temporary dwellings.\u00a0\u00a0For this feast these structures are built to this day.\u00a0\u00a0They eat meals inside of them.<\/div>\n

Followers of Jesus are not bound to observe the Old Testament holy days such as this festival.\u00a0 We are not bound to The Law. Even today some sa\u00a0nts are drawn into silly arguments about keeping the Sabbath as the Jews kept it.\u00a0 All these things were temporary things which pointed to Jesus.\u00a0 They were only a shadow of things to come.\u00a0 Of Jesus who came.\u00a0 (Colossians 2:16-17<\/b>)<\/div>\n

Does that mean that none of The Law or the prescribed Old Testament holidays apply to us?\u00a0\u00a0No, not at all.\u00a0\u00a0Jesus said that He did not come to abolish The Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them.\u00a0\u00a0(Matthew 5:17<\/b>)\u00a0\u00a0He has given to us the Holy Spirit who dwells inside of us.\u00a0\u00a0The Holy Spirit reminds us, teaches us and guides us of Jesus and the written word.\u00a0\u00a0We should not need to be made to follow righteousness, but our actions should be the result of the God within us flowing out of us.\u00a0\u00a0How can setting aside of times for family enjoyment and communion, and to remember how good God is to us, be anything but cherished times together?\u00a0\u00a0Us with God and all enjoying each other.\u00a0\u00a0Lovely, so lovely!<\/p>\n

So keep the Festival of Booths, not physically, but in our hearts and with humble spirits.\u00a0\u00a0Set aside family time to remember, to honor and to worship God.\u00a0\u00a0These feast are not useless to us, but our examples of good practice.\u00a0\u00a0However do not keep these festivals at certain times and in prescribed manners, but keep them as they continuously flow from our hearts.\u00a0\u00a0As the Holy Spirit continually reminds us to be thankful and humble before God.\u00a0\u00a0As He reminds us to spread the Gospel to our children, grandchildren, friends and to the world.\u00a0\u00a0We should live humbly and simply before our God as we live in gratitude not only for what He is doing for us, but for what He has done for us.\u00a0\u00a0Micah 6:8<\/b>\u00a0–\u00a0He has\u00a0shown you, Oh man, what\u00a0is\u00a0good; and what does the\u00a0Lord\u00a0require of you, but\u00a0to do justly, to love\u00a0mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.<\/i>\u00a0\u00a0This verse should live in our hearts and as it does freedom, peace and joy will be with us all the days of our lives as we dwell with God in His home of love and peace.\u00a0\u00a0(Psalm 23:6<\/b>)<\/p>\n

Psalm 150:6<\/b>\u00a0–\u00a0Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.\u00a0 Praise the Lord!<\/i><\/p>\n

Micah 7:7<\/b>\u00a0–\u00a0But as for me, I watch\u00a0in hope\u00a0for the\u00a0Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will Hear\u00a0me.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n

Micah 6:8<\/b>\u00a0–\u00a0He has\u00a0shown you, Oh man, what\u00a0is\u00a0good; and what does the\u00a0Lord\u00a0require of you, but\u00a0to do justly, to love\u00a0mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.<\/i><\/p>\n

Numbers 6:24-26<\/b>\u00a0–\u00a0The\u00a0Lord\u00a0bless you and keep you; 25\u00a0The\u00a0Lord\u00a0make His face shine on you and be gracious to you; 26\u00a0The\u00a0Lord\u00a0turn His face\u00a0toward you and give you peace.<\/i><\/p>\n
