Jude 5-7<\/b>\u00a0–\u00a0Though you already know all this,\u00a0I want to remind you\u00a0that the Lord\u00a0at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.\u00a06\u00a0And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling\u2014these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.\u00a07\u00a0In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah\u00a0and the surrounding towns\u00a0gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.<\/i><\/p>\n
Just reading the above verses what do you see?\u00a0\u00a0In Egypt those who were saved out of Egypt, delivered from the slavery of Egypt, later turned away from their knowledge and appreciation of God and were \u201cdestroyed\u201d the same as any non-believer.\u00a0\u00a0Sad.<\/p>\n
Egypt was a type of the world and was a place where Israel had been enslaved for the better part of four hundred thirty years. But it was also a place of escape.\u00a0\u00a0We see that even after the Lord had rescued them from the brutal conditions of their slavery in Egypt, some Israelites rose up and wanted to return to the Egypt rather than trust the Lord in the desert.\u00a0\u00a0Egypt was also representative of power as they had a mighty army.\u00a0\u00a0It was a worldly place and represented the security and comforts of the world.\u00a0\u00a0It was known as a place of plenty.\u00a0\u00a0The flood waters of the Nile irrigated the surrounding soil and nourished the soil to fertility.\u00a0\u00a0As people are apt to flee for safety to other countries and states in our day, so the Israelites, when trouble came, sought to seek provision, safety and security in the worldly Egypt rather that trust in God.\u00a0\u00a0We saw that in the complaints of many who rebelled. (Numbers 11-17<\/b>) Sadly we see that in believers today.<\/p>\n
We see that this type of the world drew many back to it.\u00a0\u00a0After the Lord has supernaturally, had miraculously saved them, many rejected the goodness of God to embrace the lies of the world.\u00a0\u00a0(1 Samuel 8:1-3<\/b>)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It is that rebellion that Jude refers to here, as does Peter in\u00a01 Peter 2:2<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Vs 20-22<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0From cruelness the Lord saved them and yet most yearned to return!\u00a0\u00a0Paul also warned us in the same way in\u00a0Hebrews 3:12-14\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Hebrews 6:4-6<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0How terrible a sin to have tasted the goodness of God and then to reject it and say that the world is preferred.\u00a0\u00a0How insulting and evil to push God away from us, to divorce Him and then to commit adultery with the world.\u00a0\u00a0We who love God hold tightly to Him knowing His love and faithfulness to us.\u00a0\u00a0We who love the Lord do not push Him away, but remain close in His love and will inherit the salvation that we have been promised. (Hebrews 6:9-12<\/b>)<\/p>\n
Jude also brings to mind what the Jews knew, that a third of the angels, including Lucifer, who had left their place in heaven because they rejected the goodness of God.\u00a0\u00a0Their evil pride led them like pigs with rings in their noses.\u00a0\u00a0The fallen demons led themselves down a path of evil to an irreversible condemnation. (Isaiah 14:12-15, Ezekiel 28:17<\/b>) We praise God that our Lord knows how to keep us on the righteous path to Heaven through Him. (1 Timothy 1:12<\/b>)\u00a0\u00a0Brothers and Sister, we who love Christ know that the world has nothing to offer.\u00a0\u00a0We push the world away and turn from it to claim as our own, through Jesus, the love of God for us and we receive His great and eternal salvation for us.
