Revelation 21:1-4\u00a0<\/b>–\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup><\/b><\/span>\u00a0<\/sup><\/b>Then I saw \u201ca new heaven and a new earth,\u201d\u00a0for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,\u00a0and there was no longer any sea.2\u00a0I saw the Holy City,\u00a0the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,\u00a0prepared as a bride\u00a0beautifully dressed for her husband.\u00a03\u00a0And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, \u201cLook! God\u2019s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them.\u00a0They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.\u00a04\u00a0\u2018He will wipe every tear from their eyes.\u00a0There will be no more death\u2019\u00a0or mourning or crying or pain,\u00a0for the old order of things has passed away.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

\u201cThen I saw \u201ca new heaven and a new earth\u2026\u201d<\/i>\u00a0 The word here for new is not just a replacement of the same kind, but is speaking of something new to the person experiencing it.\u00a0 Only Adam and Eve had seen Eden.\u00a0 Only they had seen, before the fall, the paradise God created for mankind.\u00a0 When we see the new heaven and new earth, we will see what we have never seen before.<\/p>\n

It is easy to understand why the earth needs to be redone.\u00a0 When Adam and Eve sinned they not only corrupted themselves, but they corrupted the earth also.\u00a0 The following clearly shows that man has defiled the earth:\u00a0Isaiah 24:5-6\u00a0<\/b>\u201cThe earth is defiled\u00a0by its people; they have disobeyed\u00a0the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.\u00a0 6\u00a0Therefore a curse\u00a0consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt.\u00a0 Therefore earth\u2019s inhabitants are burned up, and very few are left.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0 In fact,\u00a0Romans 8:19-22\u00a0<\/b>we see that all of creation cries out for to be liberated from its bondage to decay\u00a0\u201cFor the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God\u00a0to be revealed.<\/span>\u00a020\u00a0For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it,\u00a0in hope<\/span>\u00a021\u00a0that\u00a0the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay\u00a0and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.\u00a0 22\u00a0We know that the whole creation has been groaning\u00a0as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0 Therefore it is easy to see that earth has suffered a death blow and awaits its liberation. When a king is overcome, so is what he rules.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some find it more difficult to understand why it is that heaven would need to be replaced. Yet we must remember that the devil has had access to it and that he still is called to come and give account to God,\u00a0Job 1:6<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cOne day the angels\u00a0came to present themselves before the\u00a0Lord, and Satan\u00a0also came with them.<\/i>\u00a0 In fact the devil had to have been in heaven before he was thrown out as Jesus gave testimony to in\u00a0Luke 10:18<\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0Revelation 12:10-12<\/b>\u00a0tells of the devil being permanently thrown out of heaven and bringing his fury to the earth and the sea.<\/p>\n

There are two thoughts about the new earth and the new heaven and new earth.\u00a0 One is that the new heaven and earth are the old ones that have been remade, that are purified.\u00a0 The other is that they are completely new kind, thus the word kainos (transliteration) which would mean a whole new kind.\u00a0 Something different than the previous to the one before it.\u00a0 Now, that may mean that it is a remade one that is new to the one who never seen it as such.\u00a0 Let\u2019s compare this to a television show in which a contractor rebuilds an old run-down house and transforms it into a beautiful home that the owner has never seen before.\u00a0 We have seen the surprised expressions on the faces as they are wowed at what the old house has become.\u00a0 This type of \u201cnew\u201d may appeal to us for sentimental reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, it would seem more likely that what is being mentioned here is not a \u201credone\u201d heaven and earth, but entirely new ones.\u00a0 To understand this we need only look to the verses that tell of the destruction of the heaven(s) and earth.\u00a0\u00a02 Peter 3:10\u00a0<\/b>states that the heavens will\u00a0\u201cdisappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0\u00a02 Peter 3:12<\/b>\u00a0also prophecies the destruction by fire and that even\u00a0\u201cthe elements will melt in the heart.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0 Other verses concerning the destruction of the earth are\u00a0Isaiah 24:3, Zephaniah 1:18, Zephaniah 3:8<\/b>).\u00a0 Therefore, since scripture clearly tells of the utter annihilation of heaven and earth, it would seem to be clear that heaven and earth are not remade, but utterly destroyed and removed. \u00a0A completely new and never corrupted heaven and earth, and never to be corrupted heaven and earth, will replace the old.<\/span><\/p>\n

Family, that heaven and earth will be destroyed should not distress us since we know that the new inviolate heaven and earth are replacing it.\u00a0 We will have no place on, or in, the new heaven and earth that will have bad memories.\u00a0 No sin will have, or ever will, violate the earth.\u00a0 It is pure, it is clean, and it is perfect with the presence of God being the very light of it.\u00a02 Peter 3:13<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u201cBut in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth,\u00a0where righteousness dwells.\u201d<\/i>\u00a0 Once again, what is a dreadful thing to the world is a wondrous thing for those that love and serve God through Jesus.\u00a0 The best things about the new heaven and the new earth is that God is there and we will ever be with Him.\u00a0 What a wonderful forever.\u00a0 What a wonderful start to forever.\u00a0 Praise God!<\/p>\n

One final note, we should be crying that all will not be there!\u00a0 The love of God within us demands that share the Gospel that the full harvest would be reaped.\u00a0 Let\u2019s reach out to all our family and friends and let them know that indeed the Lord is returning and that they also may repent and seek Jesus as Savior and Lord. God loves them and desires that they return to Him.\u00a0 Let\u2019s share the Word and in this way we give glory and honor to God.\u00a0 May we strive to always honor and praise God.\u00a0 Praise God!<\/p>\n
