I need to be about my Father’s business! (Luke 2:49) There is no comfort, no solace, no peace, no joy outside of God’s will. My spiritual life is sustained by God Himself and I must have Him! Always more of Him. In times of ease I need Him. In times of trials I need Him. The reality is I need Him all the time. Pardon the terminology but I am a glutton for our God. This is nothing noble on my part. Even the desire to pursue Him is from Him as He reveals just how lovely and wonderful He is. Since He is everything to me, everything I need, I push in like puppies to their mother, like a shy child who clings to the leg of his father, I cling to our God. My goal is not that I should cling to Him only in times of trouble, but that I cling ever so tightly during times of “ease” also. My need for all He is, the great “I AM” never diminishes. I am a needy helpless man who understands that God is life and without God there is no life. Without God there is no life as we want to live it in shalom and all that comes with shalom. I thank God that He never tires of me but, somehow, manages to delight in this wretch that I am. How great is our God!
I thank God the Holy Spirit for the patient and persistent reminders of what is truly important, often this selfish man can look about instead of straight ahead, as I must be about my Father’s business. My peace is only found while in the shadow of our God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
