The hiker was walking a lonely back trail when he came to a raging river. It appeared that there was no way across the dangerous river. Then he saw an old bridge spanning it. It looked like it had been there forever. He didn’t know if it was safe. He examined it as best he could. Finally he thought it looked solid and was safe to cross. He cautiously stepped on it. Slowly he put more and more of his weight on it. His trust grew that the old bridge was trustworthy so he began across it. Slowly at first. Then as it proved solid and true, he walked on it more confidently. Halfway across he was so sure of it, he stopped to pause and look at the beauty and majesty of the river below. Finally, not believing, but knowing he was safe, he continued across to the other side.
Such it is with us and Jesus. We came to the Lord not knowing if we could trust. We learned to trust. We put our toe out on our faith bridge and slowly put our weight on Him. Then as we travelled with Jesus, we grew to know that He is sure and true and able to keep us safe.
Jesus invites: Matthew 11:28-30 – 28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
God says you can trust Him – Jeremiah 32:27 – 27 “I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?
We trust Him – Psalm 13:5 – But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.
We live happily ever after – John 14-2-3 – 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
